What is the training about?

Modern machines continually require improvements to achieve higher quality, better efficiency, lower carbon foot print and less energy use. Control system play an essential role in the optimisation of machines. In this course, you learn how to design control systems optimally.

This training teaches you the how to choose and set up control systems to optimise the controlled machine. Thereby, use is made of software, the PID Tuner. As a participant you receive a licence for this software, so that you are able to use this in your daily practice.

Starting with an overall picture, we dive into more and more detail. You practice with an actual case.

Our courses

This course has two modules.
  • Module 1: Classical control gives you a training how the PID controller works, what its parameters mean and how you should tune them. The participants will do exercises, that may be one of their own PID loops.
  • Module 2: Advanced Control teaches advanced control solutions, like feed forward, override control, master-slave, and split range. You learn how to tune these.

Module 1: Classical control

In Module 1 the participants will learn how to tune a PID controller, and how to deal with issues you will encounter in practice which they don’t teach you in the text books. The participants will learn to identify badly tuned loops, and make sure they are properly tuned. (...)

If you choose for the in-house training, all examples can/will be based on loops you have in your own factory. Together with the participants we show how to apply the learned contents in practice.

Learning Objectives

  1. You will learn, with case-studies and excercies, how to tune PID loops

Module 2: Advanced Control

In Module 2 the participants will learn how to use more advanced control options, like feed forward, override control, master-slave, and split range. You learn how to tune these.

Learning Objectives

  2. You will learn how to combine the Advanced Control solution with the PID controller, and how to tune it.

Intended for

Automation Engineers or Process Technologists who want to improve and extend their knowledge on control systems, and who wish to learn and understand more on how to improve control. Usually, the training is combined with tuning of at least one PID loop, so that gives the trainee the opportunity for a hands-on experience: resolve the problem and get trained at the same time.

Participants will receive from DotX Control Solution an eternal license for the DotX PID Tuner software, so that they can use the tool in future. In addition, you willl receive a booklet in the form of a pdf document for background reading.
